An active lava-dome volcano in western Guatemala, formed after the 1902 eruption of Santa María Volcano. It is one of the world’s most active volcanic systems, frequently releasing ash, smoke, lava flows, and hazardous pyroclastic flows. Recent eruptions have posed risks to nearby hikers and settlements.
